Executive Director

Ohio Pharmacists Association | Columbus, OH

Position Summary:

The Ohio Pharmacists Association (OPA) announces the search for the organization’s next executive director. The OPA Board of Directors has retained Benefactor Group, a Columbus-based, nationally recognized consulting firm serving nonprofit organizations, to conduct an extensive search for the organization’s next leader.

Founded in 1879, the OPA unites those in the profession of pharmacy and encourages inter-professional relations while promoting public health through education, discussion and legislation. The OPA seeks an experienced professional to succeed a long-time, visionary leader. The incoming executive director will be a thought partner to a diverse board of trustees who come together in their service and in their commitment to positively shaping the direction of the pharmacy profession in Ohio and beyond.

The executive director will succeed Ernie Boyd, who retired from the organization in October 2022 after 34 years as executive director. Donald Bennett, past OPA president and Ohio Pharmacists Foundation board member, is currently serving as the executive director in the interim.

Under Boyd’s leadership, OPA has risen to national recognition as a leading voice in the pharmacy community. The incoming executive director has an opportunity to build on this momentum and national profile to deepen the organization’s impact and continue to expand the opportunities of pharmacists in Ohio to positively impact public health.

Reporting to the board of trustees, the executive director serves as the staff liaison for all standing committees including Finance and Planning, Legal and Regulatory, Member Services and Development, Pharmacy Economics, Public and Professional Relations, Resolutions and Bylaws, Practice Advancement and Innovation and New Practitioner Experience (NPX). As the leader of the association’s educational arm, the Ohio Pharmacists Foundation, the executive director will play an instrumental role in the continuing education of professionals across the state. Leading a staff of 12, the executive director will be responsible for the operation and financial health of OPA. They will bring effective management skills to create cohesion within the OPA staff to best support the membership and the pharmacy community across the state. Annual activities of this committed team include the following: the production of an annual conference and trade show, a midyear meeting with extensive publication of continuing regular education offerings, news update monthly journals and advocacy activity, including the championing of legislation that furthers the organization’s mission.
