Controller

ASM International | Materials Park, OH/Hybrid

Position Summary:

ASM International is seeking seeking a dynamic and experienced controller to join our finance team. The controller will play a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and transparency of our financial operations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in accounting, financial management, and non-profit regulations. As the controller, you will collaborate closely with the executive leadership and contribute to the organization's overall financial strategy and decision-making process.

This role will report to the director of finance and engage with all areas of the organization. The controller will also play a critical role in the administration and maintenance of key software tools used to manage the organization, and continually look for improvements to process and systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Financial Management:
    • Oversee all aspects of financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and financial reporting.
    • Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures and internal controls to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and best practices.
    • Monitor financial performance against budgets, identify variances and provide insights to leadership.
    • Manage financial software and identify opportunities for improved integration and processes.

  • Financial Reporting:
    • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements and cash flow statements.
    • Coordinate the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors to ensure timely completion and accuracy of audited financial statements.
    • Provide insightful analysis of financial data to support decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting
    • Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with department heads, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
    • Prepare financial forecasts and projections to support short-term and long-term planning efforts.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Reporting:
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards, tax regulations and nonprofit reporting requirements.
    • Prepare and submit required filings, including tax returns, grant reports and government compliance reports.
  • Financial Operations:
    • Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and banking activities.
    • Monitor cash flow, liquidity and investment strategies to optimize financial resources.
    • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement efficiency initiatives within the finance department.
  • Leadership and Team Management:
    • Manage and mentor a team of finance professionals, fostering their professional growth and development.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure effective communication and alignment of financial goals.
    • Prepare reports and interact with volunteer governance body, with the primary responsibility of reporting the organization’s financial performance.
