Northeast Ohio Colleges Among Those Receiving Intel Funding

They are getting the monies to develop semiconductor career programs

Kent State University and Lorain County Community College will lead projects aimed at developing a semiconductor manufacturing workforce in the state as construction begins on a $20 billion chip plant in Central Ohio, Intel has announced.

On Friday, President Joe Biden, Governor Mike DeWine, Senator Sherrod Brown, Intel executives and other dignitaries were expected to gather at Intel’s suburban Columbus site for a groundbreaking ceremony.

To ensure there are enough workers to staff the plant, Intel announced it will offer $50 million to Ohio higher education institutions over the next decade, including $17.7 million in the next three years to Kent State, Lorain CCC and five other colleges that have developed projects to train and educate workers. Each lead college will be working in collaboration with other public and private colleges in Ohio.
