Biden Administration Weighs Rules for AI Tools

It is examining how to regulate the explosion of artificial intelligence

The Biden administration is weighing how to regulate the explosion of artificial intelligence (AI) tools such as ChatGPT that are transforming how companies and associations operate.

Earlier this week, the Commerce Department asked for public comments on how it could create regulations that would ensure AI tools work as advertised. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is also looking into how generative AI could exacerbate scams or fraud.

“Some of the recent developments around generative AI bring a whole new set of risks,” Sam Levine, director of the FTC’s consumer protection bureau, said to The Washington Post.

Associations are among the sectors exploring how generative AI can radically improve member engagement, streamline internal processes and better serve their audiences through personalized content.

The American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) is holding an online program on “Critical Considerations Surrounding ChatGPT and Generative AI” on May 11 from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. The program will explore the non-technical questions that associations will have to navigate on the road to maximizing generative AI.
