OLBC Mourns the Death of Former Ohio State Senator Ben Espy
He was one of the first African Americans in the Ohio legislature
The Ohio Legislative Black Caucus (OLBC) mourns the passing of former Ohio State Senator Ben Espy, a trailblazer and dedicated public servant.
As one of the first African Americans in the Ohio Senate, Senator Espy was a champion for underserved communities. His leadership and commitment to equity left an indelible mark on Ohio.
"Senator Ben Espy was a visionary leader and mentor whose legacy will inspire generations," said Senate Assistant Minority Leader Senator Hearcel Craig, Sergeant at Arms of the OLBC. "His unwavering dedication to justice and equality helped shape the course of Ohio's history. He not only opened doors for Black leaders but also worked tirelessly to ensure those doors remained open for the future. His contributions to the OLBC and Ohio are immeasurable."
The OLBC extends its deepest condolences to Espy's family, friends and all who knew him.
