Congress Set to Count, Certify Trump’s Electoral College Victory over Vice President Harris
The joint session will occur at 1 p.m. ET
The U.S. Congress is set to convene today to count electoral college votes and certify President-elect Donald Trump’s victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in the November presidential election. Harris, in her constitutional role as president of the Senate, will preside over the joint session scheduled to convene at 1 p.m. ET.
This certification comes four years after a violent mob of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, delaying the tally of votes showing that Joe Biden had defeated Trump in the 2020 election.
Although snow may be pilling up outside, Capitol Hill is up and running. While it's pretty quiet, there is extra security all over the building — fences around the perimeter, officials checking credentials and extra staff in the hallways.
