How One Major Brand Embraced Digital Transformation
Clorox defends its $580 million upgrading project
Clorox is currently in year four of a five-year modernization plan slated to cost up to $580 million, which includes its first ERP upgrade in two decades, AI investments, a new operating model and widescale modernization of processes and systems. The company’s goal is to unlock productivity and efficiency gains while also driving growth. Digital transformations rarely conclude without a few bumps in the road, especially for multi-year ERP overhauls, which are often costly and time-consuming.
Clorox had to pause its ERP upgrade in the wake of a 2023 cyberattack that hurt sales and operations, ultimately costing the company around $49 million. As Clorox resumed its ERP overhaul, leaders took a “maniacal” approach to creating documentation to get the project on track.
Other manufacturers and retailers have also taken on big, costly IT upgrades in recent years.
