Three Takeaways from Trump's Address to Congress

He touted his plans for tariffs, taxes and inflation

President Donald Trump’s first Congressional address since he returned to office was a victory lap fit for a somewhat vengeful winner. He repeatedly taunted Democrats over their losses while rehashing his administration’s goals for his second term– some of which were at odds with his deregulatory agenda and mass consolidation of the federal workforce.

Trump declared that America is already back in the six weeks he’s been back on the job. But the stock market had already cast its vote regarding his aggressive tariffs against Canada, China and Mexico. The market sold off, the Dow losing 1.55 percent and the S&P giving up 1.22 percent, following a very bad Monday.

The message could not be clearer: businesses large and small are unhappy with Trump’s tariffs. Nor could the president’s message be any clearer; he’s sticking with tariffs no matter the outcome.
