ASAE Survey Highlights Challenges for Associations

The survey was distributed to 3,200 association CEOs

A new pulse survey conducted by the American Society of American Executives (ASAE) reveals that many associations are experiencing financial strain, operational disruptions and strategic uncertainties in the current political and regulatory environment. These findings highlight the complex and evolving landscape that associations must navigate as they continue to serve their industries and professions.

The pulse survey, launched earlier this month, is the first in a series of member polls ASAE is conducting as part of its Insight-as-a-Service initiative. This initiative was developed to provide associations with timely data and nonpartisan insights needed to shape their organizational strategies now and in the future.

The survey was distributed to 3,200 CEOs of small, medium and large associations across diverse industries and professions, with a total of 319 responses analyzed. While most respondents reported experiencing negative impacts – such as reduced funding, decreased conference attendance and complications surrounding diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) initiatives – others indicated neutral or even positive effects, underscoring the varied nature of the association sector.
