Association Advocates Take to the Hill for ASAE's 2025 Fly-In
They shared the value of nonprofits and the work they do
Last week, more than 170 association professionals engaged in over 130 meetings on Capitol Hill as part of the American Society of Association Executives' (ASAE) 2025 Legislative Fly-In in Washington, DC.
This year’s fly-In took on heightened importance as Congress considers imposing new taxes on associations and other nonprofit organizations to offset the cost of extending expiring provisions from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. In response, association leaders made a powerful case for the indispensable role associations play in driving economic growth, supporting workforce development and strengthening communities nationwide.
In addition to tax policy, fly-In participants rallied behind the ASAE-endorsed Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow’s Workforce Act, bipartisan legislation that would expand 529 savings plans to cover postsecondary training and credentialing expenses. By advocating for this critical policy change, attendees reinforced their commitment to making lifelong learning more accessible and ensuring the workforce remains agile in a rapidly evolving economy.
With legislative threats and opportunities on the horizon, ASAE’s fly-In underscored the power of association advocacy and the need for continued engagement to shape policies that impact millions across the country.
