FBI Reports Seniors Lost $4.8 Billion to Scammers in 2024
Elder abuse via digital scamming is on the rise
Seniors lost $4.8 billion in 2024 to scammers, according to a report released Wednesday by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
In total, people in the United States lost $16.6 billion in 2024, representing a 33 percent increase in losses from 2023 to 2024.
"Every number in this report represents a real person, a victim whose trust was betrayed, whose financial security was compromised and whose voice deserves to be heard," said Christopher Delzotto, the section chief of the FBI's Criminal Investigative Division, to reporters during a conference call.
