President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs on products from nearly every country around the world are reshaping global trade; economists predict more American consumers will notice rising prices on household goods, cars and groceries.

Trump's tariff rates have fluctuated wildly this year and remain in place despite an appellate court ruling striking them down as illegal. Current tariffs on goods from America’s top trading partners range from 10 percent to 50 percent.

The president has said tariffs will boost American manufacturing and reduce the trade deficit with foreign countries. But tariffs are taxes that American businesses pay to import foreign goods, and are often passed along to consumers in the form of raised prices, making experts wary that the levies will directly benefit ordinary Americans.
