InnovateOhio Announces AI in Education Strategy at Workforce Board Meeting

Ohio is at the forefront of embracing artificial intelligence

At a meeting of the Governor’s Executive Workforce Board on Wednesday, Lt. Governor Jon Husted and InnovateOhio announced the AI in Education Strategy, an effort designed in collaboration with the AI in Education Coalition to help educators better prepare students for the workforce of tomorrow.

The strategy aims to provide students, educators and communities with the knowledge, tools and skills they need to thrive in an increasingly AI-infused world. Outlined through recommendations developed by the coalition for K-12 school districts, higher education institutions and Ohio government agencies, the strategy acts as a guide to better prepare Ohio’s young people for the rapidly changing workforce. As AI continues to evolve, it will impact a wide range of jobs, including both those that require advanced expertise and those that involve more routine tasks.

Recommendations in the strategy for school districts and institutions of higher education include:

  • Implementing AI policies in schools
  • Incorporating AI literacy into education preparation programs

In addition to the newly launched strategy, InnovateOhio has spearheaded various efforts in response to the growing impact of AI on Ohio’s education and workforce, including:

  • AI forums in partnership with OhioX and the Ohio Information Technology Association (OITA)
  • The Ohio AI Toolkit, launched earlier this year for K-12 school districts to advance AI literacy in Ohio schools
  • The creation of the Ohio AI in Education Coalition, composed of stakeholders from industry, education and workforce organizations, is tasked with addressing specific aspects of AI's impact on education

This strategy not only serves as a roadmap for the present but outlines a vision for Ohio's future in an AI-driven world.  To learn more and read the full strategy, visit InnovateOhio.gov/OHAIStrategy
