House Speaker Mike Johnson (Louisiana) is seeking to shore up support among fellow Republicans for reelection to his post as the new Congress convenes Friday at 12 p.m. ET.
In his bid to keep the gavel, Johnson has little room for error: Republicans hold one of the slimmest majorities in congressional history.
