Man Charged with Attempted Murder, Terrorism in Fire at Pennsylvania Governor's Home

The arsonist and attacker is Cody Balmer

A man who said he hated Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) has been charged with attempted murder and terrorism in a fire set at the governor’s residence early Sunday while Shapiro and his family were asleep inside.

Cody Balmer, 38, allegedly climbed a fence at the mansion in Harrisburg, the state capital, then broke a window and threw a molotov cocktail inside. He then broke another window, climbed into the house and threw another homemade fire-starter when he reached the dining room, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

Balmer kicked open the dining room door and left the house, walked off the property and climbed back over the fence before running away, police said security footage showed. He allegedly later told police that if he had encountered Shapiro, he had planned to beat the governor with the hammer he had used to break the windows.
