Today, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) reached out to the Ohio Society of Association Professionals to seek our assistance in gaining input on President Donald Trump's executive order 14247, what the administration has named "Modernizing Payments to and from America's Bank Account."
This EO transitions federal disbursements to electronic payments.
Given the signing of this EO, the U.S. Department of the Treasury (Treasury) has released a request for information (RFI)
According to the Treasury's press release, "beginning Sept. 30, 2025, all federal payments that are currently made by paper check—including Social Security benefits, tax refunds and vendor payments—will be made electronically."
The press release states that "paper checks are increasingly 'the front door for fraud.' Treasury is committed to raising awareness of the growing fraud risks associated with paper checks and providing Americans with the knowledge and tools to fight financial fraud and make informed financial decisions."
The IRS request also noted that, as described in the Treasury news release:
Written comments and information are requested on or before June 30, 2025.
