Republicans say their massive domestic policy agenda is too big to fail. On the other hand, they quietly acknowledge, it might be too big for voters to understand.
“I’ll tell you, vampires are hard to kill. This bill is hard to kill,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) told reporters Tuesday after Senate Republicans — by the narrowest of possible margins, 51-50 — sent their legislation to the House. The bill passed due to a tie-breaker vote from Vice President JD Vance.
But Graham, the chair of the Senate Budget Committee who managed the sprawling process, then lamented how the Republicans have fought for months over the most contentious parts of the nearly 900-page bill and not focused on what he considers “popular” items like a surge in border security.
