Nationally, Ohio Ranks Fifth-highest in Unemployment

Despite spending billions to create jobs, the state is flailing

In May, Ohio had the fifth-highest unemployment in the United States. 

The people behind state programs that are supposed to create jobs are not taking credit for Ohio's relatively high jobless rate.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) on June 24 released May unemployment rates. Ohio tied with Rhode Island for the fifth-highest rate at 4.9 percent. Exceeding them were Kentucky, at 5 percent, California, at 5.3 percent, Michigan, at 5.4 percent and Nevada leading the nation, at 5.5 percent.
