As an oncologist, I am often asked by family and friends about swollen lymph nodes. Even I find them concerning at times, wondering if they could be a sign of cancer.
I should know better. Most lymph nodes swell as a reaction to an underlying infection or inflammation and are nothing to worry about.
In a study conducted in England, published in The Lancet, investigators identified about 8,000 people who were diagnosed with solid tumor cancers and pored over their medical records to determine the health complaints that led to their diagnoses.
